All You Shining Stars
Eight years ago, I attended a performance of the Itamar Borochov Quartet at the Montreal Jazz Festival. It’s no overstatement to say the musical direction of my life changed during that performance. I had always wanted to compose a work for a soloist that involved extended improvisation but never found a musician whose voice matched my own musical aesthetic. I knew instantly I had found this kindred artistic spirit in Itamar Borochov. This was the beginning of my musical journey to compose All You Shining Stars for trumpet and strings.

With the generous support of a grant from the Queens Council on the Arts, we scheduled a live premiere concert of All You Shining Stars in Queens, NY for the spring of 2021. COVID-19 prevented this event from taking place. As an alternative, we presented a premiere video performance followed by a live Q&A on Youtube. The strings were recorded at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music and the trumpet was recorded separately in Israel.
